El Niño: When surface waters of the equatorial Pacific turn warmer than normal in summer, climatologists would expect an El Niño year, then forecast when and where droughts, floods, and hurricanes might occur. Bad for some, but good for those of us who live in the desert. We’ve been living through a number of drought years.
